if you have the time to drive thru the mountain region, do it. It is really beautiful and makes you forget how beautiful the beach is. It is the only way to explore the heartland of Puerto Rico.Edited: 02 July 2011, 01:26
RT 10 is an interesting drive. It is part highway, part twisty turny little roads. I forget exactly how long it took to go all the way down, but I think it was at least 1.5hrs..maybe more.
But going around the coast would be at least that long also.
I have taken this route on numerous occasions during car rallies. There are 2 sections of new highway connected by winding roads in the middle. This is because they have not yet completed construction of the highway in the center. I recommend going this way since the scenery is very beautiful
If you don't get carsick on curvy roads, I would go for it
