Island Explorer Questions

We are staying at West Street Hotel. Looks like the closest pick up is at Bar Harbor Village Green. So let's say we want to get to a destination off Loop Road, Gorham Mountain. Would we need to take different shuttles? That could take quite a while....isn't it easier to just drive it? Do they have route books out? Thanks~

Yes, it is easier to just drive it. The problem comes in finding a parking spot to leave your car while you hike. If you get an early start to the day, it shouldn't be much of a problem to park your car at the large Sand Beach parking lot. You can even park in the right hand lane of the Park Loop Road at the trailhead. But by 10 or 11 in the morning on a sunny day in July or August you might truly have trouble finding a parking spot.

There are route maps you can pick up anywhere and also a large board at the Village Green, which is indeed the closest regular stop to the West Street Hotel, about a three block walk. Or you can look here:

That's the route you would take from the Village Green to Sand Beach to do a Gorham Mountain hike. No need to change routes. Also note that the buses will stop anywhere safe when flagged down or asked to stop.
