Ship Harbor and Wonderland Trail?

These 2 short trails seem farther out from BH proper. We are only here for a few days....worth the travel time to hike them? Thanks

Yes, worth the travel time. It's a pleasant drive over to that side of Mount Desert Island. You'll get so see Southwest Harbor, which is a lobstering and boat building town with a very nice, large, sheltered harbor. The drive is really only 15 to 20 minutes from Bar Harbor to Wonderland.

Absolutely. The trails are nice, scenic and hug the water in some sections. - and you will drive through the 'quietside' of Mount Desert Island. You can stop at the iconic Bass Harbor Head Light and then on to the Seafood Ketch or Thurston's for lunch where you can watch the lobster boats in Bass Harbor while you dine. Enjoy your stay.

It is possible to do both as a loop, if you are up to walking a cobblestone beach and picking your way among the rocks on the shore. We did it by walking out on Wonderland, then following the shore until we could pick up the "sea" side of Ship Harbor. It then is a short walk along the road back to the Wonderland parking lot.

If you go to Thurston's (and I second the recommendation), take your camera.

If you were to pick only one of those trails to walk, which one would you choose?

We would like to fit one in as part of a busy day.

I'd pick Wonderland. It's a bit shorter and the hike itself is very easy. It comes out on a rocky, tide pool area that is really quite stunning. We stood for quite awhile one day and watched birds feed in the tide pool at mid-tide. Do that first. If your time is good, you can still at least get out of the car and look around at Ship Harbor.
