Acadia the end of June

We will be staying in Lamoine. Anyone have ideas of what to see in that area. We will have our son and grandsons, 10 and 6. Also, anything you really enjoyed around Bar Harbor would be appreciated. Thanks!

Lamoine is a rather rural, spread-out community with few commercial opportunities for your sons and grandsons. Probably the thing they would most enjoy would be some on the beach at Lamoine Beach State Park (I remember family weekend trips there as a kid -- long before it became a State Park)... should be less crowded than Sand Beach over at Acadia National Park. The entire family might also enjoy a visit to Seal Cove Farm in Lamoine -- a local farm with a large herd of goats that they raise for making goat-cheese... they welcome visitors who want to see their goats and the working dogs they use to herd the goats as needed. Other than that, your best bet for a wide variety of activities will be along ME Rt 3 between Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, in Bar Harbor itself (30-45 minute drive from Lamoine depending on where in Lamoine you start, where in Bar Harbor you want to go, and how much traffic you encounter along the way), and, of course, the varioety of activities available in Acadia National Park.... Along Rt 3, at least the last time we were down that way last summer, were things like a Maine Lumberjack Show, mini-golf, bumper-boats (similar to bumper cars but on water), go-carts, scenic airplane rides..... Bar Harbor offers the Lulu Lobster Boat cruise (great for kids and adults who want to know more about Maine lobsters), whale watch cruises, and scenic and naturalist cruises. Acadia offers great scenery, hiking for all levels and abilities, Sand Beach, Cadillac Mountain, Jordan Pond, carriage roads great for biking and walking/hiking.... Note: many of the places listed above can be Googled for more info...

Between Ellsworth and Bar Harbor, there is the Wild Acadia Fun Park with a great rope climbing course, water slides, go karts, mini golf and a trampoline. It's a fun afternoon with the kids. You should definitely bring them into Acadia for a day or two for hiking and swimming at Echo Lake.

Thanks for the suggestions. We actually chose Lamoine to be away from the touristy areas. Do plan to see Bar Harbor and Acadia and will take in some of your suggestions. Thanks!
