Acadia in April?

We are considering making a trip to Acadia during Spring Break 2015 which is the week of Patriots Day/Marathon Monday. We would be traveling with two children and a senior citizen. Wondering what people see as the pros and cons of going this time of year? We have been twice before both in the summer.

The Park officially opens on April 15th, weather permitting but the hiking trails are always open. The carriage roads may or may not be open as they usually close for two weeks in April to dry out. It depends on how wet the winter has been. There are only handful of shops and restaurants open in April but there should be enough for you to have options. It all just depends on the weather if it's going to be a good time to come or not. Sometimes April is warm and sunny, sometimes it's still snowing. Probably best to wait and see.

Our trip in April was wonderful. We came up just after the major Patriots Day snowstorm back in I believe 2007. We got lucky. The weather was sunny and cool but perfect for hiking and walking. There are no people around in April so we felt we had the entire park to ourselves. The road to Cadillac Mountain had just opened; there were still pockets of snow on the road up which was so odd for us since we had only come in the summer. Enough was open. We had no trouble eating or doing some shopping. Definitely not like the summer but if you are lucky enough to have good weather it's lovely.
