Burr Trail or Norton/Bullfrog Rd?

I'm wondering whether our trip to Capitol Reef would be more interesting if we traveled the Burr Trail to Boulder and then up through Torrey or if we took the Norton/Bullfrog Rd. to Capitol Reef? (We are coming from Bluff, Ut to the south). We will have a 4WD vehicle. We will be traveling in Mid-May. Thanks! Everyone here is always so helpful.

You can't go wrong either way. Both have their perks and fabulous views. Though, I would definitely make a call a week before coming, to find out the Notom road's conditions. The CR office headquarters usually has a weekly road report.

If you take the Burr trail you have the switchbacks, the Strike Valley Overlook and the wonderful Circle cliffs and Long Canyon.

IF you take the Notom road you have a number of side canyons you could explore.

Either way find out road conditions first, May should be good, but on the ground knowledge is helpful

I would definitely take the Burr Trail up to Boulder just based on the increased variety of scenery you will find. If you have time definitely check out the Strike Valley Overlook which is a couple of miles down a side road off the Burr Trail at the top of the sitchbacks. A quarter mile hike rewards you with amazing views.

Thanks! I think we will probably go the park one direction and return to Mexican Hat the other.
