We can visit Crater Lake on a sunny day in mid-April. We are from SF bay area, keeping an eye on weather, and will travel to Redding on 16th, Klamath Falls on 17th and will visit crater lake on the 18th. So far, it seems like 18th will be sunny+cloudy with no rain/snow, we'll keep an eye on weather can adjust the dates a little bit if that changes.
We have a Nissan Versa, is it advisable to rent a AWD SUV for the trip to crater lake? Especially if the weather is clear? Also, are there any shuttle options from Klamath Falls this time of the year to save driving to the lake?
We have never done snowshoeing before, and have an a very active 3-year old with us. Does the visitor center have snowshoes for young kids too?
Also, at this time of the year, how far do we need to walk in the snow to get to a view of the lake? It looks like the road to Rim Village may be open, but I am not sure whether the lake is visible from the Rim Village.
Thanks for all your help!
