Fishing in Denali - I know, I know...

I am going to be backpacking in Denali in early to mid August and want to do some fishing while I am out and about. I know that I can fish at Wonder Lake for some lake trout, but I would love to hit up some streams/rivers for some grayling. I realize most of the rivers have too much silt to provide an environment suitable for fish. Please help! Thanks to all in advance.

About the only stream I have seen active with fish is Fish Creek . . . actually watched a bear fishing there one day. I am sure the rangers/park interps can help you when you arrive with those details if someone here doesn't post their own personal experience. Good luck! :)

Coalminer, thanks for the knowledge. I hope to hit up as many streams as I can in my short 4 day trip there.

Most of us locals either head to the Kenai peninsula or many go out on the Denali Hwy - Tangle lakes and those areas - that is where the fishermen I know go. :)

Wow, this is a pretty new posting and you are wondering where all the fishermen are, why your question is not answered?

The fish are running! SO the fishermen are busy. Some of the rest of us have some idea. In McKinley Park try any of the clear streams. Iglo Creek is one, along with Fish Creek that was mentioned earlier. I have tried looking for lists or references before with no luck. There is also a clear stream on the east edge of Tek Campground, a fine place to bathe but not one where I have seen fish.

Write back and tell us what more you discover

You might have more luck on a Alaska fishing forum.
