Denali NP

So I've been reading that it is not very reasonable to make a car trip from Talkeetna to Denali NP in (1) day (stay in Healy instead?). However, this is where I find myself. Looking to travel the end of May: so I know you can only get as far as Tolklat River (53 mile marker)...yes? Is this doable in a day, granted a very long day? Just know, I'm used to driving a 3 hour round trip.

You could drive on Saturday to Matanuska Glacier then to Talkeetna for the night. But that means you won't be able to explore the Portage Valley/Girdwood area. Personally I prefer "doing" things in Alaska vs "driving." Adding Talkeetna means more "driving" than "doing." That is fine if you want to drive more and the drive will be pretty. But Portage Valley/Turnagain Arm is one of the most scenic drives in the nation. If I had a choice, I would definitely do the Portage Valley area.
