Must-sees during GNP/Flathead Lake trip?

1st time visiting GNP & Flathead - arriving July 30th by Amtrak into Whitefish, staying til following Thurs. Traveling with Mom - we're not into hiking, might take a couple short ones to see scenery. Most interested in seeing the sights and getting some great pics. So far, only plans are hot-air ballooning, Red Bus Tour to GTTS rd, and maybe the boat cruise on Flathead Lake to Wild Horse Island.

Any places we shouldn't miss? Any hidden gems of places to see? Shops? Restaurants? Looking for any fun ideas!

From Whitefish, we're heading to Polson, then to Bigfork, and Hungry Horse.

This forum is great to gain valuable info! Thanks for any suggestions!

Stop at Cherry Stands... Flathead Lake Cherries and Huckleberries will be in full flourish. You haven't visited the Flathead unless you have some cherries and huckleberries. Have a Huckleberry dessert at least! :-) Enjoy!

Bigfork is an "artsy" town and has a good summer theatre. Good eating in Whitefish at the golf course (yes, the golf course) lattitude 49 and one more I can't recall but will come bak with. Consider a helicopter ride over Glacier or 3-4 hour rafting trip in the flathead out of west glacier.

Huckleberries and cherries for sure. In pancakes, ice cream, shakes, candy, etc.

National Bison Range is a good visit and short trip. Second Bigfork and Flathead Lake. Visit Lake McDonald Lodge and Polebridge and dine in Polebridge at the only dining spot in the "town". If you get to the east side then by all means visit Glacier Park Lodge. Simply beautiful and amazing construction. Have fun.

Check out the Swan River Nature Trail in Bigfork. Ask anyone in town how to find it. It's a nice, easy, wide trail that follows "The Wild Mile" part of the Swan River, with high-above the river views.

Yellow Bay State Park, halfway between Polson and Bigfork, is one of the nicest picnic and swimming spots on the lake. Super peaceful and restful, great views.

U-Pick cherry stands should be in full swing while you are here. Either pick yourselves or just buy from one of the dozens of roadside stands.

Loads of free outdoor summer concerts (or reasonably priced) all summer long throughout the Flathead Valley. Pick up a local paper when you get here and see what appeals to you. Also plenty of crafts faires.

Have fun!
