My favorite campground is Many Glacier...I generally spend about 2/3's of my 3-week stay at Glacier in this campground.....

The Many Glacier area has great mountain scenery, boat trips & rentals, the best variety of hiking trailheads in the park and great wildlife viewing...

Another nice Campground on the East side of the Park is Two Medicine Campground, it just isn't as convenient to other activities...

My favorite campground is Kintla Lake near the Canadian Border . . .but it is not centrally located. As Toddnick mentions Many Glacier is the most popular campground in GNP but it is nearly always full and you would need to arrive early in the morning to get a campsite. The NPS has a very nice little program that will tell you when the campground has filled up in the past.

Two Medicine is a much nicer campground and doesn't fill as early, neither of these campgrounds are considered 'remote' in GNP.

Nice trails in Two Medicine area including Scenic Point / Mt Henry Trail

Another option is to Reserve a site at St Mary Campground for one night and then drive over early the next morning and get a site at Many Glacier.

Otokomi Trail is near St Mary Campground. Rising Sun Campground is next to the trailhead for Otokomi Trail but you can't make reservations, however it usually doesn't fill up until the afternoon.

Get bear spray and read up on bear safety while camping and hiking

Agree with Toddnick, MG best, but is a contact sport to get a site. Two Medice very nice area, but not as good as MG and more travel time to get around. Rising Sun also very nice with showers/store right there and on goning to the sun. Also, only a 30 minute drive to MG from Rising Sun and St. Mary with stores and dining is about 5-minutes away.

thank you --Bears do worry us. But we will try to get into Many Glacier Campground. We were thinking of staying at a motel/cottage close to Many Glacier the night before trying to get into Many Glacier, any recommendations?

Also, with 2 teenagers we generally try to keep busy, what activities do you recommend, we will be coming shortly.

Thank you in advance..

The most popular activity in GNP is hiking, and there are no shortage of trails to fit every ability level.

Iceberg Lake Trail is open

www.glacierhikers.com/iceberg-lake.html

Swiftcurrent Pass Trail for the first 4 1/2 miles is open

www.glacierhikers.com/redrock-falls.html

Cracker Lake Trail is open

www.glacierhikers.com/cracker-lake-trail.html

All of these trails are open but you will need to check with the Ranger Station located next to the camp ground regarding status regarding bears when you get to GNP.

Grinnell Glacier Trail isn't fully open but you can hike the first two miles which connects to the Lake Josephine Trail

This trail at this point in time will give great views of Grinnell Lake.

www.glacierhikers.com/grinnell-glacier.html

There is a short / steep waterfall / view trail

glacierhikers.com/apikuni-falls-trail.html

which would give you the best view at the moment of Grinnell Glacier and Salamander Glacier

Those trails are all in the Many Glacier Valley

With two teenagers looking for adventure, I'd recommend a half-day white water rafting trip. These are based out of West Glacier, so you might want to spend a night camping on the west side of the park, at Fish Creek for example. Glacier Wilderness Guides or Montana Raft Company are two good choices for white water rafting options.

Also, there is an evening program at the Many Glacier Hotel - singer songwriter David Walburn puts on a nice show most evenings, with amazing photographs and music.

Enjoy!

Yes to whitewater rafting, as mentioned in my earlier post.

Yes to the boat tour at Many Glacier, esp. combined with the short hikes.

No to driving up to Banff - it's too far for your amount of time. You could, however, drive from Many Glacier or East Glacier up to Waterton (Canada) for a day trip. Make sure you all have passports. Lots of great advice on the Waterton forum.
