How many days do we need to see Glacier National Park?

We are planning a trip to Helena, Mt and will also go to Glacier National Park. There are kids ranging in age from 4 to 9. What is a good amount of time to allot for each of these places?

Is the hiking too hard for the younger kids to do in Glacier National Park ? Would it be easy to see things from driving in the car vs. getting out and hiking? They would be ok on short hikes, maybe 1 1/2 hours at most. Are there hikes like this in the park?

On the west there are trails following the shore of Lake McDonald and Avalanche Lake. Avalanche Lake is 4 miles RT. St. Mary/Virginia falls, Hidden Lake overlook along GTTSR. In Many Glacier the mostly flat Swiftcurrent Trail to Redrock Falls is about 4 miles RT, I think. A trip to Fishercap Lake(on Swiftcurrent trail) is about 2 miles RT. That is a good spot to see moose in the lake. Grinnell Lake is a mile after you take the boat ride. With Glacier, you can start any of the trails, going as far as you want, then turning back. In most instances even a short hike will give you some beautiful scenery. With limited hiking I would think one or two nights on the west and two or three on the east would be fine. Of course there are various boat trips, horseback riding, red bus tours that can also be done. Many pull offs along the GTTSR with great vistas.

All great hikes mentioned above. If in the Two Medicine area, Twin Falls, Paradise Point, Aster Falls, Running Eagle Falls are all very easy hikes. You won't be lacking in trails, Glacier is a hiker's paradise.

Check with the Visitor Centers as they have activities for kids.

I have seen many school groups on this trail

As Hikes mentioned Red Rock Falls on the Swiftcurrent Pass Trail

In the Two Medicine area is one of the easiest hikes

Four is a tricky age for hiking my youngest grandchild just turned four.

A very popular hike for all ages is the Hidden Lake Overlook with a very good chance of seeing mountain goats.

Make sure you catch some Ranger Talks & do the Jr. Ranger Program. Our kids loved it at some National Parks a couple of years ago.
