Can you tell me if there is a bar on property ? Is it hard to get reservations. We are planning on going the 4th of July 2019.
El Tovar, because it's inside the Park. Even if you're normally particular about hotels and might plan your itinerary around where you want to stay, imo, this is one destination where the location matters more than the hotel.
There's a possibility that El Tovar will be closed for renovations in July 2019. If so, book a different lodge inside the park. My personal favorite are the Bright Angel Lodge Rim Cabins, especially if you're a couple. I prefer them over El Tovar (by a lot, in fact.)
we really dont care about the rooms, cabins would be fine. But we like a place that has a couple of restaurants, lobby, bar etc. Do these cabins have something like that or is there another place in the park that you recommind that does in case the El Tovar is being renovated?
If you read my trip report you would have seen that the El Tovar has on the first floor the following: nice suite rooms looking out to the Rim Trail and the Hopi House, lobby for check in, El Tovar Dining Room - a rustic but elegant dining experience, great gift store, bar lounge with nice food list.

All of the rim lodges (El Tovar, Bright Angel, Kachina, Thunderbird) are situated in a row along the rim, right next to each other. You won't be limited to the restaurants, bars, shops at your particular lodge. I tend to eat most of my meals at El Tovar while staying at Bright Angel.
The Bright Angel cabins are free standing which means if you want to "go to the lobby or bar" you will have to walk to the lodge itself (right next to where the cabins are) or to El Tovar which is also not far to walk!!
Along the rim you have the El Tovar dinning room (reservations for dinner only required), Arizona Room (which now takes reservations) and the Bright Angel restaurant (Harvey House). The Bright Angel restaurant and the Tavern are inside the main lodge! Some info on the restaurants: https://www.grandcanyonlodges.com/dine/
