Removing Thunderbird & Kachina Lodges??

I just read on www.kaibab.org that the Thunderbird and Kachina

Lodges are scheduled to be removed in the next few years with

no plans to replace them. Could this be true???? If so, why??

It seems that there is never enough lodging as it is -- I can't imagine

doing away with any. I hope this is not true.

I just booked Kachina for April 2008, I doubt this is true.

This has been discussed here in this forum already. Kaibab.org is not an official Grand Canyon website. The idea that is posted there was floated years ago, but has never received any credible consideration.

gcmaven and other GC experts have stressed the importance of doing your homework when researching on the internet. There are literally hundreds of unauthorized websites that publish information about the Grand Canyon. Some of the information may be accurate, but some may not. Most of these sites are fronts for links to other sites that ultimately want to sell you something.

Thanks for asking, but let's let this thread die.

I had heard this some time ago. I asked them in the Grand Canyon when I was there last summer and no ranger or person I talked to had heard it was going to happen.

The original place I read it said something about having the canyon area buildings more like the originals... keeping Bright Angel and El Tovar, but doing away with the Thunderbird and Kachina, which might have been built in the 60's????

I am sorry that this thread got started again! When I first asked

the question, I accidentally clicked 'submit' twice. Somehow, this

started up again. I understand that removing the lodges was

discussed some time ago. But due to lack of funds or changing of

minds, it didn't happen.

Please let this die at last.....
