Trip to Yellowstone in 2008

I'm looking into Yellowstone for a trip in 2008. I'd like to do lots of hiking. Questions:

1. Minimum time your recommend to enjoy the park and do some trails?

2. Best time of year for hiking?

3. I may combine Yellowstone with a week I already have scheduled in Sedona, AZ. Since I live in Hawaii making both into one trip to the mainland saves a lot in airfare. I would appreciate your suggestions on transportation choices between Yellowstone and Sedona. (Fly to/from or drive a nice route?) I've already done much of the area but missed Yellowstone, so could just fly if that works easily. But love the area so could drive it too.

4. Any sage advice about lodging there that's nice and you think good value?

5. Best sites and trails?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yellowstone National Park is in Wyoming 900 miles from Sedona, a 2-day drive. Closest large airport to Sedona is Phoenix. Not sure exactly where one would fly for Yellowstone as they are all smaller airports: Billings, Bozeman, Casper, Cheyenne.

Were you thinking of Grand Canyon National Park? It is hours from Sedona.

OOOPS! Typo. Sedona is 2 hours from GCNP.

No, I do mean Yellowstone. It may need to be a trip all to itself. I'll still need to fly to somewhere near Yellowstone.

Post on the Yellowstone board for more info too. Visit www.nps.gov/yell/ .

Fly into Jackson WY, which is the closest or Billings or Bozeman MT.

Flying into Salt Lake will save some time, but still a 5-6 hour drive to YS.

oooom,

I don't know if this will help with your plans or not but on a trip to

Glacier NP and Yellowstone, we flew into Salt Lake City, then

boarded another plane (commuter type) and flew to Idaho Falls,

Idaho. The reason being we got really good air fares this way.

However, Jackson Hole would be the closest and most convenient.

Have a great trip and whatever you do, don't miss the Grand Teton

NP!

Grand Tetons were as equally amazing to us as Yellowstone--actually, to be honest--I preferred the Tetons over Yellowstone.

Have a great time whatever you decide to do!

Hey pen-I also enjoyed the Grand Tetons to Yellowstone. Loved them! Yellowstone is a must see for any American, but GT is more my style, I guess. Going to GCNP next spring, and I see you have posted several times on that, so will take a gander at them. Tyme
