white water rafting GC

Has anyone done the Grand Canyon Colorado River White Water Rafting One-Day Adventure with Helicopter Ascent (Raft)? We are considering doing it around 16th April.

This sounds like the trip from Grand Canyon West. It is many miles from the Grand Canyon Nat'l Park. There are many posts about this trip on TA.They can pick you up with a helicopter at the river because it is on indian land, not within the GCNP.

The Hualapai River Runners are what you are referring to. They put in the river near Peach Springs and exit at Lake Mead. It's in the Grand Canyon but it's not the part in the national park. It's fun. Some posting here have described it as an amusement park ride. There is however no other 1 day white water rafting available in the GCNP area.

The Hualapai do what is refered to as a "Diamond Down". You put in at Diamond Creek (mile 226) - the last rapid before the silt of lake mead slows the river is at mile 235. You will motor to river mile 261 along the lake and take a 5 minute chopper ride to the Hualapai Complex (West Rim). As mentioned this is the only one day whitewater option in all of Grand Canyon.

If you want a complete whitewater trip visit www.gcroa.org for a full list of outfitters.

And if you are planning to do this trip while you're visiting the GCNP, it takes several hours to get to the river, where you'll put in, and several hours to get back to the park. It's well over 100 miles away. So the one day river trip really only means a few hours on the water, and many hours in a bus.

AngelsGateTours can tell you exactly how much time you'll have on the river, but suffice to say, it's a long day, far away from the park and your hotel room and bed.
