What's your travel style? I think it's more of a personal decision. If you've never camped before, this might be a good way to give it a try. But whatever you decide, you need to plan and book reservations in advance. You'll be touring in popular parks and destinations in a busy travel season, so both hotels and campgrounds will be crowded and booked to capacity.

There are plenty of aspects to consider, and you do need to know what you're doing. If you're camping, then you'll have more to do on your own, especially in terms of setting up and breaking down each night and morning. Costs will be about the same, just for different things. IMO camping makes more sense if you can set up and stay in the same place for several days at a time. If you're constantly on the go, I'll take the convenience of hotels every time. So 8 nights in 5 or 6 different places might not be such a good thing.

Who are the best camper rental people out of Vegas? Got the three national ones off of Google but looking for well kept secrets.

Are there deals to be negotiated or are prices typically fixed?

How long does it take to check out a camper and check one in?

FWIW, Grand Canyon only books 6 months in advance these days.

Redrox 2 nights each in Sedona, South rim, Page, and Zion.

We own our own RV therefore have never rented one. But from what I read on the various forums, it takes about 3 hours, plus or minus, to see the orientation video, do the walk-around, sign papers, etc.

By "big three" you mean CruiseAmerica, El Monte, and the one that has "bear" in it's name? Read carefully for hidden charges such as costs for bed linens and that sort of thing. You will not get unlimited free mileage; it's usually about 100 free miles per rental day.

There will be no "deals" in summer.

There are pros and cons both ways, RVs v. hotels. In figuring up your budget, remember to add your camping fees ($25-40 per night) and extra fuel costs. With a *light* foot, you'll get about 9-10 MPG, and travel times will be slower due to not driving 70-80 MPH on the freeways!

Often times RV rentals can be more expensive than staying in hotels.
