DH and I are planning our second trip down to Phantom Ranch this November. (have reservations in the dorm) One of our sons & his wife have expressed an interest in going with us (which would involve snagging more reservations or switching to a camping permit or something.) But one of the things we're also trying to think through before we go too much farther in the planning would be the advisability of them bringing their toddler along with them - - he would be about 15 months old at the time. Obviously, the dorms wouldn't work at all - so we'd be looking at either a cabin, which might be nearly impossible to get at this point - or trying for a backcountry permit and camping. I'm trying to think if I even saw any kids that age down there on our last trip, and I don't think I remember any. Is it even a good idea? Obviously, a person would need good balance for the toddler/backpack, but not sure if it would be that much different than a fully loaded backpack. Would you do it? Have you seen others do it? Did the kids look happy or miserable?
