A heads up!

Just received this from "Hit the Trail".......

There is a water line break in the "Box" about two miles above Phantom Ranch. The park is implementing water rationing by having people flush toilets with creek water and other water conservation measures so the 10,000 gallon reserve tank of drinking water will be enough to get them through until the line is repaired. They hope to have the waterline repaired by Wednesday. Officials say that hikers should have some way of purifying water in case the repair takes longer than hoped. In my experience, once the water is turned on, another break often occurs as well. It's just a good idea to have some tablets on hand--just in case. (A lightweight SteriPen is great too!)

If you are heading to the Inner Canyon be prepared!!

Thanks for the update SJG. Will pass it on to my colleagues. They've been through this before at GC, so they're usually well-prepared. Push comes to shove, though, diners at El Tovar could be eating off paper plates!
