Bright Angel Lodge on South Rim or keep Tusayan hotel?

I am doing roadtrip Denver->L.A. in July/August with my teegae sons aged 18 and 14. I had problems booking my one night on South Rim. I ended up booking Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites in Tusayan at $209+ since I couldn't get anything in the GC Village.

Now I see that Bright Angel Lodge has available room for my day. I booked the Holday Inn with cancellation possibilities (full refund).

It seems that the Bright Angels is on the Rim and much cheaper.

Given that I bring my 2 teenage sons (18 & 14) should I change to the Lodge or stay in Tusayan.

Suggestions?

OK. Got it... Since we're three I had to take the "Cabin 1 Queen with Partial View and Fireplace". But still cheaper than the hotel in Tusayan. And it seems like a nice room and place.

The Tusayan hotel might be more "fun" for teenagers but it's not like they haven't seen too many of these hotels with pools already (and they will see more on the trip).

Thanks for the quick reply that saved my day & booking!

@ B H - I'm curious as to how many beds does this cabin have? If you're a party of 3 you'll want a place with at least 2 beds, or if it's a 1 bed cabin, you'd probably want to ask for a rollaway. Having folks sleep on the floor is not generally encouraged.

I actually am curious too. I thought Bright Angel Cabins were only allowed to occupy two persons. Does anyone know if they are not very strict on that?

Actually forget what I just asked...the cabin type he has booked can sleep 3. I am still curious though, can you sneak a kid into the other types with no issue and sleep 2?

Always stay inside the park if you can. Sneaking extras int the room or cabin is a bad idea. Just ask.if the room won't handle that many, they'll tell you. Some of the rooms are really tight.

This is the reason why I had to book that cabin. More expensive but since we're 3 there was no option to book the 2 cheaper rooms that where available. So the fine text said that we could be 3, but I think maybe I have to ask for that extra bed (will doublecheck of course). I think also the text said that children under 16 are free of charge.

Thanks for your concerns...better safe than sorry.

The rim cabins (ones that say "partial view") have enough room for a roll-away and the roll-aways are more like a single bed than a cot. They're my favorite rooms in the park. (OK, I should stipulate that the El Tovar suites with the big terraces have never been an option... lol)
