Visiting both the north and south rims will be somewhat redundant. I'd add time to Page and lighten one rim or the other by a night.

I'm also one who would delete most of the time in LV to add Zion and Bryce, and or Sedona.

If you skip nights in Las Vegas you easily can visit Zion and Bryce before North rim. 2 nights Zion, 1 night Bryce.

We were toast after 3 nights in Vegas...2 would

ve been fine but three was too much. Thankfully, we took an entire day away from the strip and headed to the Hoover Dam. IMO, 7 days is WAY too long in Vegas.

We spent 2 nights on the South Rim at GCNP. I wish we had stayed an additional night, I would agree that nights at both north and south are a but redundant and would actually suggest exploring more of AZ.

Since you are keen walkers you will want two nights at each Grand Canyon rim so you can have a full day between for hiking. The North and South Rims are very different from each other so I would not call it redundant at all.

Yet has made a good suggestion for adding Zion and Bryce before your time at the North Rim. Zion is right on the way. It will be warmer there as the hotel and road are at the bottom of the canyon, not on the rim. But it is beautiful. With two nights there, you would have a full day for walking. You could hike up Angels Landing in the morning with it is cooler, and then in the afternoon take the Narrow hike, which is a walk in the river down in a narrow can you---lots of fun and very interesting. You must check on weather conditions before starting out, to be sure no flash flood will occur. Visit Zion Adventure Company in the town of Springdale, at the park entrance, for information on the Narrows and to rent special water shoes.

Hi

Appreciate your coments about the north and south rim, that bit was always the intention. Have now cut Vegas short by 2 days and booked one night at Desert Pearl inn in Springdale and another night at Best Western in Bryce (can not shorten Vegas any more wifes 60th birthday that bit is the reason for the trip)

Would you recomend 2 nights in Springfield then. still have one night in Page

What are the water shoes for ? assumed walking boots were adequate

thanks again

Hi again. The water shoes are only if you wish to do the hike in the Narrows ar Zion. You are walking IN the river most of the time, with water often up over your knees. The current is not fast, so it is very safe and a lot of fun, especially on a hot day. The water shoes help with your footing on the rocks. You can wear trainers if you don't mind getting them wet. You would not want to wear leather boots as they would be ruined. And sandals do not protect your feet enough. I did this hike with a group of friends frommthe UK, ages 55 to 74, and everyone loved it.

Desert Pearl is a great choice.

Start Las Vegas as early as possible and spend rest of the day in Zion. Desert Pearl is a great place. Then next morning for Zion again and leave for Bryce early afternoon. Just east of the tunnel there's the hike (app takes 1 hour) to Canyon Overlook trail. Then drive to Bryce. BW Grand is a good place to stay as well right at the entrance of the park. Maybe a morning for Bryce again before te drive to North Rim. Don't forget to buy cookies at Jacob Lake Inn. They are delicious! North rim to Page is 2.5 hours and you'll be driving over Navajo Bridge where you often can see condors.

Leaving Zion to the east on ut9 you'll go up the switchbacks to the long Zion-Mt Carmel tunnel. The parkinglot for Canyon overlook trail is right after the tunnelexit.
