Convenience store? Wine at the rim?

After a year of planning, we'll finally be on our way next Saturday.

We fly into Phoenix, will spend the night then drive to GCNP on Sunday. Being on EST, I expect we'll be on the road pretty early. Any suggestions for a place to have breakfast about an hour or so outside of Phoenix?

Is there some type of convenience store in GCNP for water and such or should we plan to stop at a supermarket along the way?

Also, someone suggested a having a sunset picnic on the rim. Does that mean wine/alcohol is allowed? And if so, is that also available for purchase somewhere in GCNP.

Thanks again - this forum has been such a wealth of information.

Have breakfast at Rock Springs Cafe, exit 242 off I-17.

The market at Yavapai inside the park at GCNP will have everything you need. Be discreet about beverages at your rim side picnic, and leave nothing behind.

Enjoy your picnic, it's a million dollar view. I believe the park markets do not sell water in plastic bottles anymore, so might be wise to grab some at a mini mart or the like en route.

The Market place inside the park sells beer and wine and has a somewhat descent selection! Have some cups on had to drink it out of thus avoiding the open container out in the open!

You may want to pick up your water in gallons jugs rather than individual bottles if you will have a refillable container with you or you can just refill at the park at all the refilling stations. The water is good there!

Another vote for bringing a water bottle and filling it at the park. The Park stopped selling bottled water because of the huge amount of waste they create.

The Market in the park has excellent made-to-order sandwiches for a picnic. Bring a cup for your beverage of choice. We kept the wine bottle in a backpack. Our sunset picnic was one of the best meals of our trip.
