East Rim Drive/Rte. 64 and Tusayan

I'm another one in the boat with those scrambling to make alternate plans. Has anyone driven the East Rim Drive/Rte 64 since the shutdown? Is anything open in Tusayan (gas, food)? We were supposed to visit the GC for the first time on Sunday and would at least like to glimpse it if possible. I know the overlooks will be closed but can anything be seen from the road and is there room to pull over and look if there is?

Never mind. The drive is now going to be closed to everyone except for residents of Grand Canyon Village because people were removing barricades from overlooks, turning around on blind corners, darting in front of traffic and tour buses were parking on the roadside (according to the NY Times). So much for plan B. ..

Tusayan is a municipality and businesses will be open through the shutdown. You can book helicopter tours over the Canyon which originate in Tusayan through Papillon or Maverick.

AZ-64 through the Park, between the south (main) entrance and Cameron was scheduled to close yesterday afternoon but it sounds like it's happening today (10/3.)

Yes, truly a shame that people would do this. We need to act like responsible adults, regardless of how others are acting.
