How to get to Marble Canyon?

If GCNP isn't open later this month, we might try to visit Marble Canyon. We would need to do this either on the way from Sedona to Page or as a day trip from Page where we will be staying for two nights.

With 89 closed south of Page, it looks like it will be quite a detour to get to Marble Canyon, no matter where we start out. If we leave from Page (we'll actually be staying in Big Water, UT), we could spend some time in Kanab before heading on to MC on 89A. We'd have to travel through Vermilion Cliffs Nat'l Monument with this option.

Is that part of 89A even open? Is MC worth the effort?

In the Marble Canyon region it's known as Alt 89.

From Big Water you can take 89 west to Kanab then Alt 89 south to Jacob Lake, on to Marble Canyon, Navajo Bridge and then up to Bitter Springs and the junction with 89 back down to Cameron, Flagstaff and Sedona.

Or you could take 89T south from Page to Gap, then north on 89 to Alt 89 at Bitter springs and up to Marble Canyon. Then you would either turn around to go south back to Flag etc, or continue up to Kanab and back to Big Water.

Kanab, would probably be the better choice for area lodging to avoid back tracking... Do you have a Wave permit ? carracar

To my knowledge Marble Canyon is the part of the Colorado below Glen Canyon Dam down to Lees Ferry. I believe operations at Lees Ferry are closed. So not sure how you visit Marble Canyon itself. You can some part of it from the Lees Ferry area and Navajo Bridge.

We hiked the Cathedral Wash Trail down to the Colorado River in Marble Canyon this past spring. Its just down the Lee's Ferry Road a bit, however, starting at the trail head the entire trail down to the Colorado River is actually part of Grand Canyon National Park so it's technically probably off limits until the shutdown ends. There are signs there near the trail head to tell you that you are entering Grand Canyon National Park.

Lees Ferry access is currently blocked as well. This is ridiculous. Marble Canyon though is a larger region easily viewable and accessible from Alt89, the main highway that connects Bitter Springs and Jacob Lake.
