Staying over only for 1 night

By the time we will arrive at GC, it will be around 3 pm. We will stay one night only there. With such little time, how should we walk around the park?

Hi,

Will you have most of the next day to see the sights as well and which gate will you be entering the park thru....South or East?

Depending on the time you have you can take the free shuttle out towards Hermits Rest stopping at all the view points along this route. There is also a paved walking path that goes this way so if you would like to walk a bit then catch a shuttle at one of the stops you have that option as well! You cannot drive your personal vehicle on this particular route, you must take the free shuttle.

If you are coming in the East gate there are also view points along this route as well starting with The Watchtower which is pretty impressive! If you will be exiting the park this way the next day you can also view these points then! You are able to drive your vehicle here!

Don't forget to view a sunrise and sunset while you are there! Get there approx 1/2 hour before sunrise/sunset and enjoy the show of colors!!

If you want after sunrise have breakfast at El Tovar...by far an enjoyable experience! No reservation required for breakfast or lunch but one is required for dinner!

Enjoy!!

When are you coming? We can advise you when sunset will be and how much daylight you will have the day you arrive.

Many thanks SJG! I have no idea which direction we will from yet. We will drive from LV and check in at El Tovar and start our afternoon and view the sun set. Do you know what time will the sunrise and sun set be in August? After sun set, will the road be dark ?

Looks like sunrise will be around 5:42 and sunset will be around 7:24.

The roads away from the Village area will be darker than normal since there is no light pollution...meaning there are no artificial lights! Bring a flashlight with you if you are walking. If you drive anywhere after dark just be very careful of people walking along the roads as well as wildlife walking!!

Try to make your dinner reservations ( assuming you want to eat at el tovar) for after sunset. 8:00 would be good if you can wait that late to eat. Then you will have 5 hours to spend outside, walking and enjoying the canyon. Too many people try to dine during sunset, thinking they will see if from the el tovar windows. They are disappointed,
