GCNP, Zion and Bryce with young kids

Hello,

We are planning a trip to GCNP in early June and are having a hard time decide whether it makes sense to add Bryce and Zion to it.

We will be flying from Seattle and will have a total of 5 days.We have 3 young kids (7,5 and 4 months) and therefore don't want to spend long hours in the car.

will doing 3 parks in only 5 days make sense or will it be too rush?

If we have to choose only 2 parks, which ones will be our best pick considering we are not planning on long hikes? does it make more sense to fly to LV or Phoenix?

Thanks much!

With only five days, those three parks will be a rush. Consider Zion and Bryce as a pair, or better yet, consider Grand Canyon National Park and Sedona. Flying into PHX would make most sense for that combination. If you're talking 5 days and 4 nights, then I'd give one night to GC and 3 nights to Sedona. You'll find more things to see and do at Sedona for you and the kids.

5 days isnt enough time to do all 3. too much drive time.

For a 5 day trip out of PHX you could do Sedona, Grand Canyon, the national monuments around Flagstaff, and Petrified Forest NP. Im not saying you can do it all---but those are your options. You could also do Page/Lake Powel/Glen Canyon area and Monument Valley.

an example:

day 1 fly into PHX the night before your 5 day trip

day 1 Sedona

day 2-3 South Rim

day 4 Page

day 5 Page in AM or visit some of the monuments around Flagstaff

If you want to Zion and Bryce you can do it in 5 days from Vegas.

day 0 fly into Vegas

day 1 drive to Kolob Canyon and Cedar Breaks NM then to Bryce

day 2 Bryce..evening drive to Kanab

day 3 North Rim of Grand Canyon for a day trip then back to Kanab

day 4 Zion

day 5 Zion...evening drive back to Vegas.

Thank you. Unfortunately, we have a total of 5 days including the flights.

If we'll decide to do the GCNP, will it make sense to fly to Flagstaff and do the following:

Day 1: fly to Flagstaff and drive to Page

Day 2: Lake Powell

Day 3: Antelope Canyon

Day 4: GCNP

Day 5: drive to Flagstaff and fly to Seattle

Flights to Flagstaff go through PHX. It takes more time and costs a lot more too.

Fly to PHX and see Sedona and Grand Canyon National Park as I suggested. Stretching yourselves to Page, Monument Valley and PFNP, is just too much driving. Your kids will hate it.

5 days including the flights.... Agree with RedRox and stick to Sedona and Grand Canyon. Make a reservation at GC at www.grandcanyonlodges.com You can visit some great places like Cameron Trading Post, Wupatki, Sunset Crater Volcano and Walnut Canyon between GC and Sedona.

With the limited amount of days you have, it will possibly make a huge difference at what time of the day your flights are scheduled.

You do seem hesitant about Sedona. If you are not familiar with this destination, I would give it some research. It is a very picturesque place, even if it is only for one night. Travelling to/from PHX, Sedona makes a good point for a driving stop/night.

With three young kids, you have to ask yourself what will make them mutiny more, the long drives, or a long stay at a scenic destination that they will obviously bore of quickly. The boredom factor will obviously depend on what type of engaging activities you have planned.

I think PHX-Sedona-Page/Lake Powell-GC-PHX (or the other way around) will work good for you. Driving will be at a minimum between points, and the scenery will be different enough that you will not burn out your kids.

Phoenix-Page-GC-Sedona-Phx still will be 12-13 hours of driving without stops.

Thank you for all the information. We'll probably fly to Flagstaff and spend our time in GCNP and Sedona as you've recommended.
