can the car go inside the park, right to the lodge ?

Do we have to park the car outside the GC park and walk ? or can we drive around inside and park at the lodge ?

You can drive into the park and along the road that goes along the rim. Once you get to the rim (I am assuming you are talking about the south rim), you could just park in one of the lots and take the free shuttle that stops at all of thepoints.

There is parking in GCNP by all the various lodges.

In answer to your query about being able to drive around inside the park, most areas of the park are open to private vehicles with a couple of exceptions: the West Rim Drive/Hermit Road is closed to cars from February (?) through November , and Yaki Point/Kaibab Trailhead, which is closed to vehicles year-round. Free shuttle service is offered to these areas; the Hermit Road is open to private vehicles at the moment, plus the Village shuttle line runs year-round to all the hotels, campgrounds and other stops. The East Rim Drive/Desert View is open to private vehicles year-round (except for Yaki Point).

There is parking near all the lodges, but depending on the time of year you're visiting, they can be busy during the mid-day hours.

We're assuming that you're speaking of the South Rim.

Just to clarify about GCNP South Rim:

the Hermit Road on the west rim, from the west end of the village to Hermit's Rest is open to private traffic from Dec 1 through the end of February each year. It's closed to private traffic from March 1 through Nov. 30 each year, and has a free shuttle operating during that time.

GCNP South rim is open to private traffic year round. There is parking by all of the lodges, but because it's a National Park, there are no parking areas reserved specifically for lodge guests. For example, there is a parking lot across from El Tovar Hotel, but it is available to anyone visiting the park, not just people staying at El Tovar. South rim lodges where you are likely to be able to park directly in front of your room or building are Maswik Lodge North and Maswik Lodge South and Yavapai Lodge East and Yavapai Lodge West.

For GCNP North Rim, if the park is open (generally mid-May to mid-October each year - weather permitting), it is open to private traffic.

Hope this helps!
