Grand Canyon North Rim is closed until mid-May, so that's out. Definitely go to the South Rim and do a 2-nighter. Make hotel reservations ASAP as that's the start of the Spring Break holiday for some US schools.

The East and West Rims are accessible from the South Rim area. I know it sounds confusing, but if you are staying at the South Rim lodge area there is a shuttle that tours the entire West Rim and you can get on and off it all day long, all the way out to Hermit's Rest. Plan to spend a day doing that. You can tour the East Rim in your own car and exit the park at the east gate on Hwy 89 near Cameron. That should be your second day. From there you can go north to Page or south to Flagstaff and beyond.

"The East and West Rims are accessible from the South Rim area"

Redrox, twiinklep is probably asking about "Grand Canyon West", which is also called "west rim" in their promotional materials.

Twinklep: GC West is the Hualapai Tribal Lands, where they are building the glass "skywalk", 2,000' above the Colorado River. This is a small area at the western end of the canyon, outside of the National Park. It's reached by a road that is partially unpaved, so if you are renting a car you wouldn't be able to drive there. They only have 2 viewpoints, each at about 4,000' elevation, but the river is very accessible there.

At the south rim, you will be inside the national park, and averaging 7,000' in elevation. You will have access to the original west rim, an 8 mile road of multiple viewpoints from the village area to Hermit's Rest. You will also have access to the east rim, 25 miles of viewpoints, with Desert View (where the famous watchtower is located) at the far eastern end.

The south rim is the area you have seen in magazines, movies, tv shows, etc and is what you'll be expecting to see. This is where the canyon is deepest, widest, and most colorful.

Drive times would make it difficult to do both GC West and GCNP South Rim, but there are helicopter tours available from the south rim to GC West, so you might be able to do both that way.
