Ideas for trip to GTNP..excited

Hi, we are leaving tomorrow for Yellowstone and Grand tetons, then Jackson and Cody. have the Yellowstone portion down, but would love ideas for our time in GTNP.

We arrive on a Tuesday morning around 11 coming from Yellowstone, have that whole afternoon and eve. Staying at Colter Bay cabins. Have all day Wed. and then staying at Cabins again. leaving bright and early on Thursday for Jackson. Any ideas or thoughts on hikes would be appreciated. We are early 50's and in decent shape. Also love wildlife, would love a cool boat ride, maybe horseback ride? thanks

Hi -

Teton Bill will probably respond regarding horseback riding. He is very good about that. However, you will have to pick your best opportunties for getting after what you want to do. Your short visit will not allow all of the activities you want to do. What are your priorities?

Check out to your right - Top Questions about Grand Teton National Park for best activiities for a short visit, day hikes and activities in Jackson Hole. All of these link to previous posts which do the most detail for hikes and activities. If you have any difficulty, let me know but it should easily link you to some awesome ideas.

I know you said you like wildlife. There is plenty to be seen in GTNP; however, its hard to know where to find it unless you want to devote all of your time to hiking or driving around vs other activities you have listed.

If wildlife is a priority, I would suggest either going on a scenic float down the Snake River or hiring a wildlife guide, which know where the wildlife is on a day to day basis.

Let us know if you need more information.

Have Fun!

You'll probably have seen plenty of wildlife in Yellowstone NP, but hope you do the same in GTNP. When you mention driving to Jackson, it's not really far from the park, so you have time to explore the park further. Colter Bay Village (right?) is about 40 miles from Jackson per Google Maps.

I really enjoyed the Lake Taggart hike. Fairly easy 4 mile loop. Beautiful.

Here are a couple of places to ride horses convenient to Colter Bay:

gtlc.com/activities/outdoor-fun-horses.aspx

Grand Teton Lodge Company rides. Easy riding inside the park. Minimum age: 8.

About an hour's drive north from Jackson. Rides are from Buffalo Valley north toward the Teton Wilderness Area. This is a mostly wooded area, with some open views of the mountains. You can generally arrange to go out in a small group.

Operated by BJ Hill. This corral is out Pacific Creek Road, right at the edge of the Teton Wilderness Area. The riding in this area is beautiful, but there can be a lot of mosquitoes near Pacific Creek, so ask before you commit. Minimum age: 6.
