The LeConte lodge web site (www.leconte-lodge.com) sends you to this National weather service data page for daily weather information: www.srh.noaa.gov/productview.php…

It's pretty bare bones, just highs, lows, precipitation, things like that. But it's something.

noaa also gives smokies-specific forecasts, by county (at least the tenn counties anyways). though, i'm not sure what elevation they're factoring. you'll notice on these pages that you can also do a "point forecast" by clicking on the map. though... if you think your local weatherpeople are just shooting craps, you can imagine how doubtable the accuracy of forecasts for these islands in the sky might be.

Look at the combination of the TN and NC NOAA sites On the NC side if you click on Cherokee for instance and then click on the forecast discussion, the guys and gals in Spartanburg give real detailed discussion of what the models are saying and so forth about what is coming down the pike. The folks in Knoxville often dont put as much in their discussions and the NC side they are the ones who put out the winter weather advisory for the Smokies.

Accuweather has some interesting blogs and so forth there as well, Henry Margosity has a great one. Combine this with NOAA stuff and you should do alright in getting a feel of what to expect. We look at the forcast starting 15 days out before our over night winter hikes and then count down to hike day.

The weather on the ridges can and does change quickly, so be prepaired....
