Hope they find him soon. Rained hard yesterday.
I have hiked that manway in the past--I don't plan on doing it again. I am 69 and think that route is more rugged than I need to tackle. God look out for him.
I heard on yesterdays evening news on WSMV Nashville, that a hiker WAS found, and was doing OK, I think.
A link for those who missed the update:
This story had a happy and successful outcome because the hiker did exactly what we should all try to remember to do when setting out on a trail, especially solo: let friends/relatives know the intended route, get the proper permits, have the right equipment, and stay put--and make oneself visible from the air if possible (rather than wandering aimlessly) when a problem arises. The precautions observed here are a big contrast to the lack of preparation (no one with knowledge of hiker's plans, no permit) of the young Eagle Scout, who tragically died earlier this summer on a trail at the Grand Canyon.
So true...stay put, stay put, STAY PUT. It's hard to find somebody who's on the move. I can also see how it would be hard to stay put if you were lost though. You'd really have to force yourself to stop and set up camp.
he never should've done that route alone.
