Portage-Spencer whistle stop and Exit Glacier hike

We are planning to drive from Achorage to Portage. Then Take a round trip train from portage to spencer whistle stop.ie(1pm-5.15pm)

Then drive towards seward. I guess it takes about 1.30hrs to get to Exit lake parking lot. Is it safe to do a 3/4 mile walk to the face of the glacier after 7pm. We are going in third week of july and have two small children ages 2 and 4yrs.

Also havent decided what to do when we get off the train at the spencer whistle stop. We wanted to do a scenic float trip in the spencer lake but not sure whether they allow 2yr olds. Any suggestions what we can do at the spencer lake.

Exit Glacier is safe after 7pm .. and you'll have a better chance at seeing moose or bears when there aren't as many people around. Allow 2 hours drive time.

You didn't say when you are going, but double check that the railroad is still operating to Spencer Glacier. Earlier this week there was an issue with flooding, which may or may not have been solved since then.
