Mt St Helens & Mount Rainier

We are traveling from Portland to Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier in August. Can we do both in 2 1/2 days? Do you have a suggestion for where to stay?

Yes you can do both.

If you plan to do this on a weekend ---good luck getting lodging.

The places to look are Packwood, Randle, and Ashford. If you cant get lodging there or in Mt rainier you will then have to look outside the area into Graham/Puyallup area, Chehalis, or Enumclaw

You can tour Mt. St. Helens in a half day while en route to Mt. Rainier. Or, longer, it depends on how much you linger at the several visitor centers/viewpoints, all are worthwhile, especially at the top.

Mt. Rainier warrants at least a very full day, so I'd plan at least one overnight after Mt. St. Helens. If hiking, give yourselves an extra night, but you can squeeze in some nice hikes even in a day.

RNP parking lots fill up early, so rise and shine near dawn from your lodging.

You should see lovely flowering fields at Mt. RNP.

We would like to do an easy hike as we are in our sixties. We are interested in viewing the beautifull area
