ONP Early August

We will be in the park for about six days. Planning to spend a couple days in the rain forest area, three days along the coast. Want to get sunset pics at Kalaloch, Ruby and Rialto beaches and then up to Lake Crescent and Hurricane Ridge. If anyone has any must photo places, please let me know. Thanks. Brian Wolf

You might give some time to Lake Quinault. The drive around the lake and several short hikes off the loop road are all very photogenic. Kalaloch and Lake Quinault are about a 45 minute drive apart.

I've posted pictures of Lake Quinault, Kalaloch, Ruby Beach, and the Hoh Rain Forest here:

If Obstruction Point Road has opened by the time you visit, steel yourself and take the 8 mile drive to the trailhead at the end of the road. There will be many places along the way that will call to you to get out of the car and get out your camera. However, harden your heart, drive to the end, and take the Lillian Ridge Trail to the right. Try to walk as far as the overlook to Grand Lake, a little less than an hour. As you walk along Lillian Ridge you will be surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery on Earth. Pink paintbrush and blue lupine are everywhere. You will want to photograph everything, but definitely stop and take some pictures of the exquisite, jewel like tarns below the ridge. As the snow melts into the tarns, they assume a range of colors: silver green, turquoise, and emerald bronze.

Obstruction Point Rd. looks dangerous. it is not. Two large cars or one SUV and one medium sized car can safely pass each other. The road is much wider than it looks. There are also many turnouts. Just drive slowly, relax, and lose yourself in the beauty.

You can see some pictures in www.kaleberg.com. We also have tide tables and maps of the area you will be visiting.
