Old Fall River Road and Alluvial Fan update

On Monday, July 28, Old Fall River Road in Rocky Mountain National Park will close to ALL uses including pedestrians and hikers, as major repair work begins on the road and the Alluvial Fan bridge. The closure area will extend from the road west of the Lawn Lake Trailhead parking area to the Alpine Visitor Center. This closure includes the Alluvial Fan.

thanks for the updates Babalax. I appreciate it. We're headed to Estes Park for a week the end of Sept. Been a couple of times to the area, but... only for a day or two, so... this time, hope to acclimate and do some hiking.

Have been on Old Fall River Rd in years past-- wow! that is some photo!

thanks for the info, Monday was our day to do RMNP. We hadn't orginally planned to do the Alluvial fan anyway, but now I know it's out of the question.

You are welcome! :)

@ wings: It's fun to hike up OFRR when it's not open to cars (haven't hiked ALL the way up though!). We've had it all to ourselves, crossed paths with elk strolling up the road. Hopefully when you are here in September you can hike up to Chasm Falls.

Thanks for the update! I am sad that we will not be able to see AF. But better to know now than be disappointed upon arrival!

I just did a photo report on the RMNP forums for this area. It may help explain the conditions. look to the park website for new closures starting soon.

That is a very good photo depiction of the Alluvial Fan area, kadeycat! As Babalax stated in the initial post and as stated in the RMNP press release linked to in that post, the closures in this area began July 28.
