Coolers and bear boxes

We're going to SEKI in mid June and I've got a question about what needs to go in the bear box. I know that all food and scented items need to go in the box, but we've got a 5 gallon water jug that is round and blue. It's obviously not a food cooler, but would a bear think so and therefore should it go in the box? What about those 2 1/2 gallon clear water containers? Can you leave those out?

Thanks.

You should put them in a bear box. You never really know if they might smell of food items and attract a bear.

Certainly do not leave them in your car in plain sight.

While staying in the Grant Grove cabins, we had to cover any coolers that we left in the cabin - bears recognize sources of food by sight, and they had been known to wander through the cabins and look in windows. Urk! So, to be safe, I would either stow it in a bearbox or put it as low in the car as possible and completely covered up. ***Make sure nobody spills actual food on it!

People leave them out on top of the bearbox all the time. Bears ignore them. Best thing to do though is listen to ranger advice. Likewise, I see cups left near the water, and paper towels. Bears walk right by paper towels.
