Lone Pine to Sequoia

We'll be driving from Death Valley via Lone Pine to Sequoia in a week or so, i.e. mid-May. I see three routes. The quickest is via Tehachapi and Bakersfield. But there are also a couple of mountain routes that might be more interesting but an hour longer. One is 178 and Kern River Hwy thru Johnsondale to 190 - Great Western Divide Hwy, I think. Another choice is the more northern 9 Mile Canyon and Kennedy Meadows.

What do you recommend? Thanks!

1. Re: Lone Pine to Sequoia

The latter is not a viable option. Only part of it is suitable for rugged 4wd with high clearance and the rest is a hiking trail. You cannot access Sequoia from that route.
