Loft Mtn in late Sept... reserve or not?

Would like to do a weekend at Loft Mtn campground in late Sept. Looking for a larger, private site for the family. Having never been there, we have no idea of any of the larger sites available, would we be taking too much of a chance by not reserving and trying to pick a site when we get there?

Thanks

1. Re: Loft Mtn in late Sept... reserve or not?

You may consider contacting the reservation office as your date approaches to ask about campgound reservations status.....full, almost full, not full, also ask about which sites are sized to meet your needs. That way you can save time when you arrive and go directly to check out large sites. If you type Loft Mountain campground in the search box you may find some helpful previous discussions about favorite sites. Loft is 80% first come/20% reserved per the SNP website, here is the contact number and campground details:

nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/campgrounds.htm

Hope this helps.
