opinions ... one night stop before heading to north rim

We will have a one night stop on our way to Grand Canyon North Rim. We will be coming from Salt Lake city area & should be able to get there before sunset. So .... Do we stop at Bryce or Zion? And which town would be be best to stay in? We will have the next morning to explore before heading to North Rim for sunset pictures & dinner for husbands 40th birthday. Thanks so much!

Well either park would be great. But Springdale is by far the better town. Nicer hotels and more and better restaurant.

I would say flip a coin.Zion or Bryce. With just an overnight you won't have time to see both.Bryce is a park that can be seen fairly quickly. If you are rolling into Bryce in the evening, you can catch the sunset, then explore quite a bit of the park before noon the next day.You can see alot of Bryce from your car by driving to the overlooks.

Zion on the other hand takes more time to visit. You need to take a shuttle, and the best parts of the park require a hike to get to.

Lodging at Bryce is limited. If you don't stay in the park lodge, the Rubys hotel complex of a few hotels is right outside the gate.Nicest one is the new Best Western Grand.

Outside Zion is Springdale with many hotel choices.

Yep, this really is a coin-flip, as dez indicated, as far as the parks are concerned. With just one night, spluge a little and stay inside the park (either BC or Zion) at the lodge. This will allow you to maximize your limited time.

The good news is that there is not wrong answer as either park is a worth the visit. In fact, both BC and Zion deserve a few days each, so come on back and explore them both sometime.
