Biking in and around Zion National Parking -- Options?

We have rented bikes for the weekend in Zion but can't pick them up until later in the afternoon. If we take the shuttles through the park earlier in the day, are we going to cover the same territory on our bikes? Or are there different trails that are available by shuttle, bike, or car that will give us some variety and different viewpoints in the park. Any suggestions or good websites would be appreciated since this is our first time to Zion.

If you take the shuttle, you will go up the same route that you can ride your bike on.If you don't want to ride up canyon(its pretty easy) you can put the bike on the shuttle rack, ride the tram to the end of the canyon, and bike back to town. Its flat or mostly downhill.Be advised the shuttle wiil not pass you unless you are stopped.Best part no cars allowed in the canyon.

The difference between the shuttle and biking is it is very peaceful. Just you and the sights and sounds of the canyon.Plus you see things you fly right past on the shuttle, like Menu Falls. If you did not know it was there you would never see it.(its midway between Sinawava and Big Bend)

You could ride to Grafton Ghost town, thats a relatively flat ride.

The ultimate ride at Zion for me is the 20+ mile downhill from Kolob Reservoir to Virgin. The road passes in and out of the park as you wind downhill from the pines and aspens down to the redrocks .Awesome ride.

You can tell when you enter and leave the park as the road changes from national park red to normal blacktop. You need someone to drop you off at the top.

There are other mountain bike trails nearby at Gooseberry Mesa, Smith Mesa, and tons of others.

Typically when you visit Zion you end up riding the shuttle multiple times. By doing the biking it will save you one of those shuttle rides.

If you are interested in off road mountain biking the two closest options are:
