Your best estimates on when the Narrows will open?

What's the collective wisdom on when the Narrows might open this year? We're planning on hitting Zion at the end of the month (27th, 28th). Just wondering if anyone has any guesses on how high the river might be running then. Would love to hike a little ways up if it's doable and not too difficult. I know there are many other wonderful hikes in Zion so I'm not counting on the Narrows, but I would love to do it if our timing is right.

Just looked at the flow rate this morning and its running 419CFS and peaking at around 500. The Narrows open when the flow reaches 120CFS.

You might be able to get in there on your dates, you might not. Just need to monitor the NPS site as the time draws closer.

Thanks Dez. I have been looking at the flow rate, but it seems really high to me right now and I just didn't know how much to expect it to drop before our trip. I'm not very familiar with monitoring that kind of thing or with how long it takes most of the snowpack to melt. thanks!

It is really high for this late in June. It has been open and ankle deep at the end of May. So this is a little unusual.

What determines how long it stays that way is the temperatures. If they are really high the snow will melt faster. If they are more moderate (as they have been) then it will take longer.

My bet would be that it will be open by the end of June. But I'm willing to admit that may be hopeful.

When we visited Zion in mid May the rangers were estimating that it would be closed until mid to late June

So, I've been keeping an eye on the flow rate and the last instantaneous reading was 266. Sounds like it's dropping at a fairly good pace, so maybe...(fingers crossed). We'll hit Zion on the 27th.
