Kolob in Jan

coming in late Jan and will have a midsize SUV. We missed the west entrance last year and would like to get up there this trip if possible. Is there much of an elevation change there and do they keep the road open if there is snow?

There is a significant elevation change beginning the moment you pass the entrance. No way to predict weather or road conditions now though. Check at the visitor center at Springdale or on line closer to your travel dates

We've struck it in December where the road was closed due to ice. All you can do is follow RR's advice above.

You can always check on the road conditions in winter on the NPS site.
