We stayed at the Days Inn (see review) for 3 days relaxation after our tour of southern states. Just what was required - great weather, sand, sea, pools & no oil or tar balls that we saw.
We're glad we chose this area, with its choice of bars, restaurants & shops within easy walking distance - its in the central area near the main boardwalk, and the beach ball in the air. We did take the free bus (weekends only) up to the fort end, and there seemed far less up there, as it is almost all condos.
Top restaurants we tried:
Crabs - good service & food, live music
Hemingways - great view from upstairs and equally great food.
Flounders - again food good.
Liked the Paradise beach bar, maybe a little less stylish than some but right on beach with good atmosphere & live band.
Bamboo willies good as well.
an odd bar or two we didnt go in because they seemd to be just a bar (can't recall names) on the road, with no real beach access, but these were away from the main boardwalk area. There was also outdoor live music in the centre of the boardwalk amongst the shops. Seemed a heavy police presence around on the Friday night, but we saw no reason for it - maybe just preventative, or they just wanted to be in on the party.
All told, we enjoyed Pensacola beach and would return some day.
