We often add a safety precaution to all our tidepooling advice. And it's not only tourists who fail to respect the power and danger of the inconsistent waves. Two young men from South Eugene High School were playing foos ball with friends on the rocks by the Adobe Inn in Yachats yesterday and got swept away and drowned.

Sneaker waves and moving logs (an inch or two of water can lift and move a huge log) are the primary perils...along with getting stranded on an isolated beach by the incoming tide.

Please, enjoy all our coast has to offer, but be safe.
