Crescent City, Ca to Lake Quinault then Portland

We plan to fly into SFO and then visit the wine country but spend the bulk of of our vacation on the Oregon coast. Can you suggest a coastal itineray from Crescent City, Ca to Lake Quinault and then fly back to homefrom Portland? We will start from Crescent city on 10/10 and fly out of Portland on 10/16 (6 days).

Sheesh, I need my coffee!

I removed my first responses, above, I did not see/read your last sentence, that your six days starts in Crescent City. You do have the time, of course.

Give yourselves about 4 - 6 hours for the Redwoods.

Here are good locations to lodge. When you have more information from others, you can decide how much driving you wish to do between points.

Gold Beach

Bandon

Florence

Yachats (We often stay at the Fireside Motel, see below; ask for a water-front, not -view, room; nice trail in front)

Newport (Much to see, to do.)

Cannon Beach area Nice artsy/craftsy town, a little like the NE coastal towns. (Usually two night minimum, but you can Google lodging; see GM, bore in to see towns such as Manzanita)

Astoria

I'd save Quinault and the rain forests for another trip to benefit from time to explore that huge park and the Seattle Region.

If you have the time when at Portland, the close-by Columbia R. Gorge, website below. The CRG is not far from the airport.

Some websites that might help:

Oregon Coast http://www.oregoncoasttravel.net/

Newport, OR http://discovernewport.com/

Yachats/Cape Perpetua Spectacular cape and trails, both sides, but especially toward the water.

fs.fed.us/r6/… Funky town, try the Drift Inn for dining.

Fireside Motel and Overleaf Lodge, both on this website. http://www.firesidemotel.com/Fireside_Motel/

You'll find lots of galleries along the Oregon Coast. If you want a list of better ones, personal opinion, let me know.

OR Coast Lighthouses Being a New Englander, you might find these interesting. http://www.nwcoast.com/lighthouses/oregon.asp

I think Voyaging is right: save Lake Quinault and Olympic National Park for another trip. You have plenty of beautiful scenery in Oregon. Also, be prepared for rain and short days. October is a transition month. It can have lovely, golden weather or dark, windy, and damp weather.

Another vote for save ONP for a later date, but adding Columbia R Gorge can be done, and in a day. You might be able to do Mt St Helens as you leave Astoria..

We live here and have for years but never seem to be able to do coast quickly. too many stops to make

! ! !

Most folks find that they need at least two days to see and expore the redwoods :-)

With only 6 days, I'd also suggest confining your trip to Oregon.
