Itinerary advice pls

Hi all,

After reading the posts this is the plan starting Oct 8...looking for comments

Day 1 arrive Boston mid morning, spend the rest of the day driving to Ellsworth via Turnpike, Brunswick & Hwy 1, exploring and taking in scenery and lobster.

Day 2 all day at Acadia

Day 3 (1st half) drive to Conway NH via Portland to Rt 302 (better ideas?)

Day 3 (2nd half) Explore White Mtn Area

Day 4 Hike all day in White Mtns

Day 5 drive back to Boston from White Mtns for 2pm flight (suggested routes?)

Thanks in advance!

That's about five hours just driving between Boston and Ellsworth, not allowing time to explore or eat lobster.

From Ellsworth to Conway is another four hours or so. You'll surely see a lot of leaves, as long as you don't mind all the time in the car. Being that it's Columbus Day Weekend, allow a little extra time for congested routes.

Thanks for the response.

We don't mind time in the car butI was not sure about the driving times, having only Google maps for estimating.

Another possibility is to arrive Boston late the day before so we can stretch out the drive to Ellsworth.

Or stop overnight somewhere on the coast. Any recommendations about 1/2 way for 1 night?

I'd suggest starting the search in the Bath/Brunswick area and then work up to Camden, Damariscotta, Boothbay if you can't find anything. Don't put off making a reservation. The weather has been glorious here and the tourists are arriving by the boatload.

Middle Bay Farm is a lovely B&B in Brunswick and she still shows openings for the 8th...she is booked rest of weekend...

Another in that area but in town versus a little out is Black Lantern Inn...do not know if they have openings

In terms of driving, google maps suggests taking I-95 to the Maine Turnpike, getting off in Gray, taking 115 to Windham and joining 302 there. It estimates 3 hr. 30 minutes which is about right if light traffic.

The northern route may be longer (4 hrs.) but more scenic if the leaves have not fallen by then. Get off 95 in Newport, take Rte. 2 to NH, then 16 south to North Conway.
