Where to stay btwn Bar Harbor and Boston???

Ok, two week trip this summer and its all planned, with the exception of two days btwn Bar Harbour and Boston!

So the plan -

July 7-14 - Cottage in PEI

July 14 - Saint John, NB after the day at Bay of Fundy

July 15-17 - Bar Harbor (2nights)

July 17-19 - ??? (2nights)

July 19-21 - Boston (2nights)

July 22 - home to Toronto Area!

During those mystery days we are planning on a couple/few hours in Freeport and also want to hit up lunch in Wells one day. We don't mind 30-60 minute drive to the Wells area, rather then staying in Wells. Have looked at Portland, Brunswick, Boothbay...and can't seem to make a decision. Looking at the $200 range for rooms, able to increase that a bit for a great place.

We are going to have our bikes with us, and would like to be able to ride daily...nice waterfront routes, parks, etc. Wouldn't mind these two days being more of relaxing days as neither Bar Harbor or Boston are going to be! Not museum people, however outdoor driving/biking tours, covered bridges, lighthouses, etc are all great. A beach day would also be great!

HELP! Thanks

How about Portsmouth NH? Not too far from Wells, beaches to the north and south, and a fantastic 15 mile cycling route along the NH coast on Rt 1A.

RE: biking. Portland has an excellent trails system:

The Prom and Back Bay trails are popular cycling routes.

Not just because I'm biased, but I would seriously think about spending another night in Bar Harbor. Spending only two nights here means you get only one full day in Acadia National Park. You could easily bike in the best scenery in Coastal Maine on different routes for a whole week here. Be sure to break your bike ride with a stop at Jordan Pond for tea (or lemonade) and popovers on the Jordan Pond House lawn, overlooking the lake and the mountains.

Then you could spend the down day between Bar Harbor and Boston in Camden. There are B&Bs in town and motels just north of town, on the water, where you could really relax. The Lodge at Camden Hills looks nice, although I don't really know much about it. It's in your price range.
