Whale Watching operators...help

Hi! We're traveling to San Juan Island in early August and would like to book a whale watching trip. We are 4 adults and 4 children (6 & 9). Our preference would be a small group trip with someone full of knowledge and the ability to engage (we have many questions!). We are also open to larger vessel if the experience is recommended.

We are staying towards Roche Harbour but have transport.

Ultimately we'd love this to be a lifetime memory so the whole 'experience' is important to us. Any recommendations would be very much appreciated.

Jim Maya at http://www.mayaswhalewatch.biz/. Smaller and fast boat. Ask him if he'd tour the islands (per your other string).

You said you'll be at Roche Harbor and San Juan Outfitters is located there with also a whale watch power boat..see their web site at https:/…whale_watching.php Do note they have a capacity of 24 passengers although I'm sure they usually go with less especially if you don't go on a weekend day.

You can find a complete list of whale watch boat companies here on San Juan island at the Visitor Bureau web page visitsanjuans.com/what-to-do/san-juan-island… I've gone out with both San Juan Excursions and Captain Carli's last year and Carli's is the one that would more fit your bill of a small more intimate boat as it has a 6 passenger limit.

Captain Maya is simply the best. We have been out on his boat every time we visit San Juan Island. You will have a great experience. Jeanne Hyde a wonderful naturalist is usually with him. You won't find a more knowledgeable duo. http://www.mayaswhalewatch.biz/
