Burren Standing Stones

Hi all. I am planning a short trip to Ireland in June, spending two nights in Dublin. I would love to go on an escorted tour of the Burren that visits the standing stones, including possibly Poulnabrone, or any similar structure.

I am aware of several one day tour operators that visit the Burren from Dublin, but none of them specifically say they visit the standing stones. I suspect if they don't mention them, they won't visit them. Does anyone know of any guided group day trips from Dublin that do indeed visit the standing stones? It's just me, so I'm only considering group tours. Privates tours, renting a car or taking a bus to a small town would not be possible, but I would consider a group tour from another major Irish city. Thanks!

If you only have 2 nights and those 2 nights are being spent in a bed in Dublin then coming over here to explore the Burren is a waste of at least 6 hours just travelling. There are Burren tours running from Galway but they just cover the general loop which includes the Hole of Sorrows and Poulnabrone.

The Standing Stones are in Carnac in Brittany (Northern France)

Poulnabrone is a megalithic tomb. There is a difference. You don't need a guide for the Poulnabrone Dolmen. There is usually a member of the OPW around who will answer questions. But there is a lot of information signposted as well.

If you are only in Dublin for 2 days, would you consider a visit to Newgrange or Knowth instead? There are group tours that go there and its much closer.

Thanks for suggesting tours from Galway. I found http://www.galwaytourcompany.com/tour/1000-cliffs-moher-tour/ which has a viable option. Looks like I'd have to do Shannon to Galway and not visit Dublin, but that's alright as I plan to be back.

Yes Poulnabrown is translated as the Hole of Sorrows I was meaning to put another option in there as well. There are a few in Clare and other locations http://www.irishmegaliths.org.uk/clare.htm

Wedge Tombs: There are many, many over in the Burren but quite a few are located on private property: In fact I recently came across one that has never been excavated.

As you mentioned the Galway Tour Company you will at least stop off at the Poulnabrone Dolmen: The bus also drives past the Gleninisheen Wedge Tomb too. Make sure you are sitting on the left side of the bus - opposite the driver for a much better view. I believe the driver will announce he is passing by the tomb but don't hold me to that.

If you return at a later stage there's enough to keep you going in the Burren for as long as you wish.
