Car Hire

I know this is a subjective question but we are a family of four (2A+2C) flying into Bodrum this August for 10 days.

Your thoughts on whether it is worth hiring a car or just relying on private/public transport.

We do like to get around on our holidays but have heard that driving standards and the roads are not great in Turkey. This is our first trip to Turkey.

Any thoughts are appreciated. Also if appropriate any contact details for good car hire forms

Hi Stephen, we're a family of four aswell.Have hired a car for the last 5 years holidaying in Altinkum. Can't be beat for sheer convenience.Especially with the kids, can load up the car with all your beach gear, food and cool box (if you want to bring a packed lunch) and pretty much whatever else you want. Most of the roads are ok, the bigger highways are terrific. Some small roads are a bit hairy but you won't have to use them. The drive from Bodrum Milas airport up to Altinkum is straight forward.Only one turn to make in the town of Milas then two that are also signposted nearer Altinkum.

Now the negatives!Petrol is expensive, around 4 TL a litre. Some of the Turks drive a bit carelessly.Exercise the same caution you would at home and you'll be fine. That's it!
